For a long time, Josh and I were weather wimps, at least with regards to the rain (snow and cold weather is an entirely different story). Hiking in the rain, biking in the rain, running in the rain.... it just isn't our cup of tea. This year, however, we made a commitment to get outside as much as possible, even if the weather didn't cooperate. No more wimping out for us!
We ran into our first challenge last week, when the weather forecasters sentenced us with a cold, rainy day, but we were ready this time. What better way to spend the day than in a kayak? We were already going to get wet, so what's a little more water? Kayaking turned out to be the perfect rainy-day activity. We bundled up in every bit of neoprene we had, and headed out to Tamales Bay for a January tour. In stark contrast to a trip we took there last summer, we had the whole bay to ourselves. The quiet waters combined with the grey skies gave us a sense of humbling solitude.
Finally, after many bouts of rain and very thick fog, the clouds broke to reveal the green pastures surrounding the bay, with a full rainbow arching overhead. A perfect finish to a great day.
